Los Angeles Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball has received a lot of praise since being drafted. Recently, Corey Brewer praised Ball as being a smart kid.

With the second overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Lakers were able to draft Lonzo Ball. Coming out of UCLA, there was a lot of hype surrounding Ball. With his dad pumping up his talent, Ball has had a lot of pressure on him.

Despite this, Ball has arguably exceeded expectations so far. In the Las Vegas Summer League, Ball was able to total two triple-doubles, which really opened a lot of eyes. Even though he didn’t shoot the ball that great in the tournament, Ball still was able to impact the game in multiple ways.

On the Lakers this coming season, there aren’t a lot of veterans. One of the guys that many people forget about is Corey Brewer. As a veteran, Brewer has been a rotation player on a playoff team. While he has never been a star in the NBA, he is a very good defensive player that might have a sizeable role on the Lakers.

Recently, Brewer praised Ball as being a very smart kid. Also, he has been impressed by his ability to make all the right plays.

"“He’s a really smart kid,” Brewer said to Nina Mandell of USA Today Sports. “The best thing about him is he makes the right pass, he makes all the right plays. Even when he was playing badly in the first game of the Summer League, he was making all of the right plays. It just didn’t go right.”"

During the Summer League, it was apparent rather quickly that Ball is going to be able to be a great floor general. While he is a very good passer, it seemed to become infectious for the rest of his teammates.

With his ability to control the pace on the court, Luke Walton will be able to run his system quite effectively with Ball as his point guard. For Brewer, while limited somewhat offensively, he has also been a good player in transition. As Ball showed in the Summer League, he is able to hit teammates on long passes down the court.

Even though Brewer might not be playing on a playoff team this coming season, he will have an important role as a veteran.
