With training camp getting closer, Corey Brewer of the Los Angeles Lakers is expecting a lot of competition in camp.
As we power through the dog days of Summer in the NBA, all eyes will be on training camp soon for the Los Angeles Lakers. After winning the Las Vegas Summer League Title, the Lakers have proven that they have some exciting young talent on their team.
With a pretty deep roster, the Lakers could have some excellent competition in training camp this summer. At pretty much all five positions, the Lakers have fairly good depth as of now. With players trying to earn minutes and make the team, this could push players to be even better.
As a veteran on the team, Corey Brewer is excited to see what training camp has in store for the Lakers. Recently, he sat down with Rodrigo Azurmendi to talk about the upcoming training camp for the Lakers.
"“It’s going to be crazy,” he said to Rodrigo Azurmendi of Lakers Espanol. “There will be a lot of competition, and that’s what basketball is all about. It is good to have competition in a young team, that all have to fight to earn it. Everyone in LA is very excited and there are expectations (high). They are ready to see good basketball. I’m not saying we’ll be the best, but we’ll be very good.”"
Brewer certainly has a good point about Lakers camp being a good one. With depth usually comes good battles in practice. Considering that the Lakers are a young team, players are hungry to earn minutes in the regular season.
While the Lakers’ starting five should be set, there are still plenty of minutes to be grabbed off the bench. As returning rotation players from last season, Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance Jr. should once again have sizeable roles.
Where things could get interesting is between veterans like Brewer and Luol Deng battling for minutes with some of the younger players. Depending on how training camp goes will likely decide quite a bit for the Lakers’ rotation to start the season.
