Recent Lakers rumors are that the Los Angeles Lakers have signed center Andrew Bogut to a one-year deal.

In what is a shocking move, recent Lakers rumors are that the team has signed center Andrew Bogut to a one-year deal.

With training camp starting next week for the Lakers, it is certainly very surprising to see them sign Bogut. Bogut was the first overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, and while he has had some good seasons, he never lived up to being a number one overall pick.

Recently, Bogut had some successful season with the Golden State Warriors. Bogut was able to win a ring with Golden State during the 2014-15 season. However, he was one of the casualties when the team needed to free up cap space in order to sign Kevin Durant this past offseason.

Last season, Bogut spent time with both the Dallas Mavericks and also played one game for Cleveland Cavaliers. Bogut barely played at all last season, and it appeared that his career is coming to a close. However, he now might be the backup for Lopez next season.

According to Shams Charania, the Lakers have reached an agreement with Bogut on a one-year deal.

This is a surprising for the Lakers, who appeared to be set at the center position. This offseason, the Lakers acquired Brook Lopez in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets. Also, they had Ivica Zubac returning. In addition to those two players, they also drafted Thomas Bryant.

Now, the Lakers are very crowded at the center position. It is hard to figure out where Bogut will fit in the Lakers’ plans, but they obviously have one for him. Adding Bogut might be potential insurance for Zubac, who didn’t perform up to expectations in the Summer League.

Bogut is no longer the same defender that he once was, but he is a good passer out of the center position. With training camp starting on September 26th, we will have to see what the plan is for Bogut on the Lakers.
