– Insurance for Lopez
One of the biggest moves for the Lakers this offseason was the acquisition of Brook Lopez from the Brooklyn Nets. As one of the best offensive centers in the NBA, Lopez will add a new dynamic to the Lakers’ offense. As a center that now can spread the floor and shoot 3-pointers, Lopez is going to be a very valuable weapon.
While Lopez might be the best player on the Lakers heading into the season, there is some concern about his back. Lopez has been dealing with a lingering back issue, and he might miss some games during the preseason.
Even though Lopez has been healthy the past few seasons, he has had injury issues in the past. While those were mostly to do with his lower body, a back issue for a man the size of Lopez is concerning. Adding Bogut will give the Lakers some insurance in case something happens to Lopez this season. Even though Bogut has been injury-prone as well, he is a proven starter in the NBA and would be able to give the Lakers productive minutes at the position.
Ideally, Lopez’s back will be fine to start the season and he and Bogut can be a great duo for the Lakers at the center position.
