With training camp here, one of the players that needs to impress for the Los Angeles Lakers is center Ivica Zubac.

The Los Angeles Lakers are getting ready for the 2017-18 season as they look to improve from last season. One of the young players that the Lakers are hopeful that will continue to develop is center Ivica Zubac.

Last season, Zubac played well for the Lakers and many believed that he would have a bigger role with the team this season. As a rookie, Zubac averaged 16 minutes, 7.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

For a rookie, Zubac was certainly impressive. However, there was a bit of a letdown in his development this offseason. In the Las Vegas Summer League, Zubac was expected to shine as a second-year player.

Even though most of the attention was on Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball, Zubac was another player that fans were excited to see. As a true center and a player with NBA experience, it was a bit disappointing to see Zubac as somewhat of a non-factor in the Summer League.

While Ingram was able to prove that he vastly improved in his one Summer League game, Zubac played throughout the tournament and didn’t impress. As he prepares for his season, Zubac is working extremely hard to improve his game, as minutes on the Lakers will have to be earned.

Due to the Lakers recently signing Andrew Bogut, Zubac is no longer going to be projected as the backup center for Brook Lopez. With both Bogut and Lopez now being on the team, Zubac is going to be battling two very talented centers in camp.

This will be a great opportunity for Zubac to learn and grow from practice. His struggles in the Summer League might have been concerning. However, he can use these struggles to improve his game and continue to develop as a young big man in the NBA.
