Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope avoided a broken nose after being elbowed Monday in practice.

The Los Angeles Lakers have been dealing with a number of injuries this offseason, specifically in training camp. The preseason was not kind to Los Angeles, as Lonzo Ball, Andrew Bogut, Brook Lopez and Josh Hart all missed time with different injuries.shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope looks

With the regular season beginning for the Lakers tomorrow, they looked to put in the final preparations this week. However, another injury looked to beset them.

Shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was elbowed in the face Monday during practice. It prompted an MRI to check if he had suffered a broken nose. Finally, the Lakers received some good news.

According to Eric Pincus, a Lakers writer for Bleacher Report, Caldwell-Pope has avoided a broken nose.

This is great news for Caldwell-Pope and the Lakers. It means that their projected starting shooting guard will be good to go once his suspension is served. Caldwell-Pope will be sidelined the first two games of the season stemming from a DUI incident in March.

That should give him enough time to recover and be ready to go for the Lakers third game of the season on Sunday against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Caldwell-Pope was signed by the Lakers this summer in free agency. The former Detroit Pistons shooting guard began the offseason as a restricted free agent, but Detroit renounced his rights after multiple moves were made.

Once he became an unrestricted free agent, the Lakers swooped in with a one-year, $18 million deal to land him. It wasn’t the max deal Caldwell-Pope was hoping to land, but it is a nice payday and gives him an opportunity to hit free agency again next summer to strike it big.

Caldwell-Pope will be relied upon to be a defensive stopper in the Lakers backcourt. He will be tasked with defending the best perimeter player on the opposing team most nights. His three-point shooting is something the Lakers were also very excited to add to their roster.
