1. Solid Second Guard Off the Bench
As the Lakers rotation is presently constructed, Jordan Clarkson is installed as the first guard off the bench and sixth man. Clarkson’s to start the season has been fantastic, bringing energy and scoring off the bench. Paired with Clarkson in the backcourt has been Lakers rookie Josh Hart. I would argue that the rotation spot currently held by Hart should be where Vander Blue is placed.
Looking at the numbers, Blue with fewer games played than Hart, puts up more points and more assists per thirty-six minutes. With Lonzo Ball‘s shot currently not falling, Blue could move into the third guard spot, adding another scoring threat to this Lakers bench. It would also allow Clarkson to play more at his natural position the two guard, allowing Vander to run the point.
The move to the second guard off the bench would also allow Kentavious Caldwell-Pope more rest, to be fresh for late game situations. This inability to close out games has certainly cost the Lakers a few wins in the early going.
