The Los Angeles Lakers have been rumored to be a possible destination for LeBron James in free agency this offseason. Former head coach, Byron Scott, believes it could happen.
As the 2017-18 season goes on, the losses are starting to pile up for the Los Angeles Lakers. With a really difficult schedule in December, the Lakers have struggled to win games, and injuries to key players like Brook Lopez, Lonzo Ball, and Brandon Ingram have not helped.
While it would be nice to see the Lakers have a few more wins this season, it is important for them to continue the development of their young talent. So far, Ingram has really improved from his rookie season, as he is one of the leading scorers on the team.
In addition to Ingram, the top two picks for the Lakers in the NBA draft have also done well this season. Both Lonzo Ball and Kyle Kuzma have had strong starts to their careers, especially Kuzma, who is being considered the steal of the draft.
With an eye toward free agency, the big prize that the Lakers are hoping to land is LeBron James. As still arguably the best player in NBA, James might decide to leave Cleveland this offseason.
Recently, TMZ caught up with former head coach Byron Scott. When asked about the LeBron to Los Angeles rumors, here’s what Scott had to say.
"“I think it’s probably 50-50 right now. I think there’s pretty good odds. … There’s a chance that he could be here.”"
Not too long ago, ESPN reported that LeBron coming to Los Angeles would be a long shot. Considering his desire to win championships, it would take a lot to convince LeBron to come play for the Lakers. While the Lakers do have a good young core, that core still likely isn’t ready to compete for a championship.

However, if the Lakers are able to land another star, that would certainly help convince James to come to Los Angeles. While a lot will likely depend on what happens in the playoffs this season for the Cavaliers, the rumors of LeBron to Los Angeles will continue to swirl.
