Lakers Rumors: Team wants Lonzo Ball to stand up to LaVar Ball
By Nick Ziegler
Recent Lakers rumors have emerged about Lonzo Ball’s teammates not being pleased with the actions of his father.
Despite most Lakers rumors being about the upcoming trade deadline, recent rumors have emerged about Lonzo Ball’s teammates not being pleased about the actions of his father.
When the Los Angeles Lakers drafted Lonzo Ball, they certainly knew the risk that they were taking when it came to his father. As arguably the most outspoken father of an athlete we have ever seen, comments by LaVar Ball has been somewhat of a distraction.
Even though LaVar has said some things about the coaching staff, Lonzo has been able to perform well on the court. Even though there have been some bad moments for Lonzo in his rookie season, he has been a very important player for the Lakers.
Without Ball, the Lakers haven’t won a game this season. Even though there have been some shooting struggles, Ball does an excellent job setting up his teammates. In a recent report by Ric Bucher of Bleacher Report, he wrote about the LaVar situation.
"While the Lakers front office, coaching staff, and players have not turned on their rookie teammate for his father’s indiscretions, a league source said, they are not happy about them.“They are frustrated that he can’t stand up to his dad, but they really like him,” the source said."
Seeing the report that Lonzo’s teammates aren’t pleased by the actions of his father really isn’t that surprising. Having LaVar coming out and saying that the team should fire Luke Walton isn’t good for anyone. While Walton did play it off playfully in a postgame press conference, it is an unnecessary distraction.
For the Lakers, they are mostly a young team that is trying to grow. Having distractions off the court isn’t going to help them grow on the court. Unfortunately, LaVar has been just that. Also, with the Lakers’ goal being to land superstars in free agency, distractions caused by LaVar can also have an impact on potential free agents.

LaVar did once say that he did all he could with Lonzo and was leaving him in the hands of the Lakers. Now, the Lakers could really use Lonzo to say something to his father for the good of the organization.
