The impending 2018 free agent, considered by many to be the best center in the league, may be what the Los Angeles Lakers need for a complete turnaround.

Los Angeles Lakers president of basketball operations Magic Johnson wants two free agents. Yet, the Lakers‘ two biggest targets might not consider (or reconsider) them as a destination for next year, which is a problem that must be solved.

Superstar Paul George could keep his player option to play again with Russell Westbrook next season. Despite an abysmal start, the Thunder turned themselves around in December. Russell Westbrook implied that his sales pitch was a “championship.”

With Golden State essentially running the NBA, it is remotely insidious for anyone to believe Oklahoma City would beat them in the playoffs.

If Westbrook led his team to a seven-game series against the Warriors, would Paul George leave that opportunity? George is surrounded by three top 75 players in the league.

LeBron James is the best player in the world, but he is not entirely a great fit with Los Angeles. Rumors recently shot down any instance of him going to the Lakers.

Timothy Rapp of Bleacher Report stated LeBron joining the purple and gold was a ‘long shot.’ James runs the Eastern Conference. Going to Los Angeles would further taint and damage his polarizing legacy.

DeMarcus Cousins differentiates from the entire group. There are plenty of reasons on why Rob Pelinka should make a run at Boogie. If George and James were to pass, Cousins could be the next star to consider.

Here are four reasons the Lakers should pursue Cousins in free agency.
