The Los Angeles Lakers are losing games by an average of 3.3 points. The Clippers and possibly the Pelicans will be sliding down the rankings. It’s time to get Sweet Lou back in the Purple & Gold and make a playoff push.

Los Angeles Lakers fans who are happy we traded Lou Williams last season don’t understand how good the team could be this year with him. Many fans say, “But then we wouldn’t have Kyle Kuzma!” This is incorrect. We would still have Kuzma.

Kuzma was selected with the 27th pick acquired from the Brooklyn Nets as part of the D’Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov trade. Brook Lopez also landed in Los Angeles. We would NOT have Corey Brewer, Josh Hart, and Thomas Bryant.

Last year Sweet Lou was the closer. This year the games are much closer and more competitive, but we don’t have our closer to seal the win. Imagine Jordan Clarkson and Williams as our SECOND-STRING back-court. I could see them closing out those games with a win quite often.

Recent struggles for other teams have made the playoffs a possibility for the Lakers. The Los Angeles Clippers are without Chris Paul and Blake Griffin and are now in full rebuild mode. The New Orleans Pelicans lost superstar DeMarcus Cousins for the season due to an Achilles injury.

There have been reports that Lou Williams is available before the trade deadline. He is also in the final year of his contract, so adding him wouldn’t hamper any cap space plans.

The Lakers have already shown that they’re capable of competing at a high level, defeating the Houston Rockets and Boston Celtics already this season. They also took the Golden State Warriors to overtime TWICE, and one of those was double-overtime.

Williams is averaging 23.5 points per game this season. If the Lakers can get him back, I can see them starting to seriously string some wins together, and make a push for the 8th seed.

Making the playoffs will show free agents and fans that the Lakers are indeed headed in the right direction. Taking out Golden State in the first round? Highly improbable. But hey, anything can happen.
