Los Angeles Lakers: Isaiah Thomas, Lonzo Ball should succeed together
The Los Angeles Lakers recently acquired Isaiah Thomas before the trade deadline. How will he an Lonzo Ball play together?
Just last week the Los Angeles Lakers made the biggest splash of the trade deadline acquiring Isaiah Thomas. Although the Lakers had to give up two great young pieces, this trade makes them more playoff ready now. With a younger focus in mind, one of the many questions is how Lonzo Ball and Thomas are going to play together.
It’s been almost a month since Lonzo Ball’s last appearance for the Lakers. Despite his injury and the trade, Magic Johnson and Luke Walton emphasize Ball will be the starter when he returns. After Thomas’ debut Saturday against the Dallas Mavericks he made it harder for coach Walton to not start him. Against Dallas, Thomas had 22 points on just 12 shot attempts and six assists. But, Thomas still isn’t back to his previous All-Star form just yet. Only 16 games into his return from his hip injury it’s only a matter of time before we get the Isaiah Thomas we all know and love.
Can IT & Lonzo play together?
Due to Thomas’ size he can only truly match up with one position, the point guard. But, with the length that Lonzo Ball brings to the team he can guard multiple positions on the floor. So with these things in mind the one question all Lakers fans want to know is; what is Luke going to do?
Since Thomas is one of the league’s best scorers, they can play him at shooting guard but guard the point guard. Lonzo on the other hand can, play point guard but guard the shooting guard. With Ball’s ability to pass and Thomas’ scoring ability they seem like a perfect fit.
Does Luke keep IT on the bench?
After trading away Jordan Clarkson the Lakers lost quite a bit of scoring off their bench. If they keep Lonzo starting with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope at shooting guard that will give the bench squad a whole new jolt being led by Isaiah Thomas.
