Los Angeles Lakers: Chimezie Metu headlines third pre draft workout
SMU G, Shake Milton
One of the coolest named prospects in this year’s draft class has a game to match his name. Shake Milton was an integral part of the SMU’s rotation, and when he was injured the team struggled on both ends of the court.
Milton is a combo guard but in a positive way. He has the size to play both guard positions at 6’5″ but possesses the skill set to also lead the offense. His playmaking skills are solid, as he led SMU with 4.4 assists per game. Milton’s skill set as a playmaker and passer would be a great addition to the Lakers second unit, which could be lacking in the backcourt.
In addition to his point guard skills, Milton can fill it up. He averaged 18 points per game last season and can score from anywhere on the court. He can score off the dribble, knock down jump shots or attack the rim. His 43.4 percent from the 3-point line is also very nice to see.
If the Lakers allow Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Isaiah Thomas leave as free agents, the backcourt becomes a position of need. Milton has the skill set to help fill the void left by those players, or be their first guard off the bench.
Milton looks like he will be a first-round pick. Will he make it to the Lakers at No. 25? If he does, he is someone the Lakers will have to seriously consider.
