Recent Lakers rumors are about the possibility of LeBron James and Paul George considering teaming up in Los Angeles.

As the offseason gets closer, there have been plenty of Lakers rumors about what will happen during this crucial offseason. For a long time now, the goal for the Lakers has been to land to max players. Ideally, Paul George and LeBron James.

George has been the most likely of the two to be recruited to Los Angeles, but the Lakers could certainly have a chance to sign James if they have George already in place. Due to the Cavaliers facing an uphill climb in the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors, James might be considering a move this offseason.

Since the Cavaliers are going to be very limited in what they can do this offseason, improving the team enough to be a real threat to the Warriors will be challenging. Recently, Adrian Wojarnowski spoke about James and George coming to Los Angeles. Here’s what he had to say on ESPN with text via LakersNation.com.

"“The most intriguing scenario remains him partnering with LeBron James on Los Angeles. Because Paul George alone doesn’t make them a championship contender. But partnering with LeBron walking in the door, as Bobby (Marks) said earlier, there’s a fairly easy pathway for the Lakers to get that salary cap space. That’s going to be a conversation or conversations those guys are going to have once we get to July.”"

For the Lakers, landing George and James is certainly the goal. While signing George would likely make the Lakers a playoff team next season, adding both George and James would propel them into title contention.

While the Lakers are a good destination for free agents, they are going to have competition from teams like the Philadelphia 76ers and the Houston Rockets. Both of those teams were in the playoffs this season, and both teams also appear like they will aggressively pursue James and George.

When the NBA season comes to an end, it will be interesting to see if George and James do talk about the possibility of teaming up in Los Angeles. If the two do decide to team up, the Lakers will certainly be a force in the Western Conference. While they will need the young core to develop a bit more, they would have a good chance to topple the Warriors.
