With recent reports that Kawhi Leonard would like to be traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, here are three benefits of pursuing him.

The Los Angeles Lakers were set to be major this offseason with a lot of cap space, however, they now have one of the best players in the league reportedly wanting to be traded there.

After an injury-plagued season with the San Antonio Spurs, it appears like Kawhi Leonard wants out and would prefer to be sent to the Lakers. As one of the best players in the NBA when healthy, this is certainly big news.

Since Leonard has a year left on his deal, the Spurs do still have say on where he will be playing next season. However, Leonard can openly refuse to sign an extension with the team he is traded to, which would likely scare franchises off.

Even though the Spurs likely won’t want to trade Leonard to the Lakers, Los Angeles would be able to come up with a good package to send back due to their strong young core. While many would not like the Lakers giving up their talented young players for Kawhi Leonard, there are certainly some benefits that would come from it. Pursuing Leonard does come with some with some risk, but it can also come with some great rewards.

Here are three benefits for the Lakers if they pursue Kawhi Leonard in a trade this offseason.
