The Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly acquired the 39th overall pick from the Philadelphia 76ers.

With the NBA Draft nearly here, the Los Angeles Lakers were scheduled to have two picks on Thursday. However, since they have been linked to San Antonio Spurs superstar Kawhi Leonard, those picks might be ammo to try and work out a trade with the Spurs.

Now, according to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers have reportedly acquired the 39th overall pick from the Philadelphia 76ers for a 2019 second round pick and cash considerations.

This trade with the 76ers is certainly an interesting one, as it could be a sign that the Lakers have something bigger planned. While trading for Leonard would likely be the main goal, they could also be thinking about moving up in the first round.

The Lakers have been working out a lot of players and they might have found one that they believe could be a help for them this coming season. While adding a second round pick or two second-round picks in a trade with the 25th overall pick wouldn’t move them up a ton, it could move them into a position that they feel their guy might be.

With a lot of young players already on the team, making three selections in the draft this year does seem a little unlikely. However, if they make a blockbuster move for Leonard, they will likely need all of the assets that they can get their hands on.

As the draft approaches, we will have to wait and see what comes of this trade for the Lakers. This move has all of the signs of them potentially looking for something bigger, but a big deal might not fall into place.
