With the 15th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, the Washington Wizards added to their backcourt with Oregon small forward, Troy Brown.

This is a peculiar selection by the Wizards. They have poured a ton of assets into their wing position, as they already have Otto Porter Jr. and Kelly Oubre. With those two locked into big-minute roles, there may not be many minutes available for Brown. He isn’t an ideal fit as a shooting guard given his shooting woes.

Brown needs to improve his 3-point shooting, as he made only 29.1 percent of his attempts as a freshman at Oregon. However, he plays well off the ball as a slasher. He isn’t an elite athlete, but Brown could develop into a solid two-way player.

He already has the size to hold up on the wing in the NBA. If he continues adding strength, he has a chance to even defend some power forwards in certain situations. His high basketball IQ will also be a plus for Washington, as he won’t hurt them when he is on the court.

While Brown has some solid intangibles, this is a bit of an odd selection for the Wizards given other needs and holes on the roster.
