The Los Angeles Lakers should not pursue Carmelo Anthony when he becomes a free agent. Here are three reasons why.

The Los Angeles Lakers landed the marquee player they were hoping to acquire this offseason in LeBron James. James agreed to a four-year, $154 million deal, the fourth year of which is a player option.

Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka landed their guy but didn’t stop after that. They were active in free agency, bringing in veterans JaVale McGee, Lance Stephenson and Rajon Rondo. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was also re-signed.

While the Lakers didn’t land another superstar running mate for James, they added a number of playmakers to help take some of the offensive pressure off of him. They also kept their salary cap clean in future years, leaving the possibility for them to land another superstar next offseason.

While another superstar won’t be walking through the door this offseason, unless a trade is made, Los Angeles can still tweak their roster. One name to keep an eye on is Carmelo Anthony.

Anthony is expected to be bought out or waived with the stretch provision by the Oklahoma City Thunder. While signs recently pointed to Anthony joining the Houston Rockets, the Lakers were in the running. The Lakers were reportedly a leading candidate for Anthony once he secured his free agency. Anthony’s friend, LeBron James, probably was a big reason why.

While Anthony may have wanted to play with the Lakers at one point, the feeling should not be mutual. Here are four reasons that the Lakers should not sign Carmelo Anthony if given the opportunity to do so.
