LeBron James may not have any expectations for the Los Angeles Lakers next season, but what exactly should we expect from the four-time MVP?
This upcoming season will be exciting to watch, especially if you’re a Los Angeles Lakers fan. Nobody is exactly sure what to expect, but one way or another it will most likely be positive.
Expectations are generally high whenever LeBron’s name is in the mix, but this year will be quite different.
Now that LeBron has taken his talents to the West, he will face more challenges due to all of the loaded teams within the conference. Most expect the 33-year-old to lead the Lakers to the playoffs for the first time since 2013. He on the other hand believes the team has no set expectations.
To LeBron’s point, having any internal team expectations may be the wrong approach to this season. If any set expectations aren’t achieved, then that’s considered a failure and can negatively impact team morale. Developing a team identity and chemistry is arguably most important, as I’ve noted before.
Regardless, the Lakers are going to have their up and down moments throughout this season as LeBron himself has acknowledged.
Expectations for LeBron
Team expectations are one thing, player expectations are another. Although this year will be somewhat experimental for the Lakers, I don’t believe this will affect the 14x All-Star’s production on the court.
Here is a short list of my 2018-2019 expectations for LeBron:
- Another MVP caliber season, and win the award
- Lead the team as he’s always done
- Mentor the core-four (Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Josh Hart and Brandon Ingram)
- Play center more often
- Attempt to play off-ball more than he has in the past
- Increased usage in the post
So there you have it.
What’s most important to note from my 2018-2019 expectations for LeBron is that he may have to adapt to quite a few different things.
Even so, we’d be kidding ourselves if we didn’t expect another phenomenal season from the King.
