4. Joel Berry
The NBA Draft provides teams a chance to add some young talent to their roster. However, post draft is arguably more hectic. Prospects that went undrafted are scrambling to land deals with teams for summer league or two-way deals. One of those prospects was Joel Berry.
Berry played collegiately at North Carolina. Berry played 144 games with the Tar Heels, helping lead them to a National Title in 2017 and a championship game berth the season before.
Given the state of the Lakers backcourt at times last season, Berry looked like a savvy addition by the organization. Unfortunately, an injury derailed his offseason. He did not get into any of the Summer League games. Despite that, the Lakers did sign Berry to a training camp deal.
Berry has high aspirations for the season, but they will be very difficult to achieve. He is behind the eight-ball because of his injury. The Lakers have also used both of their two-way deals, as they went to Alex Caruso and Travis Wear.
However, training camp will provide Berry a chance to showcase his talents for the other teams in the league. If Berry puts in the work, he should land a deal with the South Bay Lakers, the Lakers G League affiliate. If he performs well enough, he could latch on with another team on a two-way deal.
