1. Brandon Ingram
The player who is poised to break out the most on the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2018-19 season is Brandon Ingram. Ingram had a bit of a coming out party last season, his second in the NBA, improving his numbers across the board. This season, he will take that next step toward becoming an All-Star.
Ingram has a versatile offensive game that will only keep improving as he gets stronger. Last season we saw how much his game grew as he attacked the basket more and was more efficient around the rim. With the added size and muscle, Ingram was able to finish better through contact.
Ingram improved from 60.7 to 67.3 percent inside three feet from the basket last season. He also improved his percentages from 10-16 feet from the basket, 16+ feet 2-pointers and on 3-pointers. In addition, Ingram also increased his shooting fouls drawn, in addition to And1’s.
There is immense potential in Ingram. The Lakers have refused to include him in any trade talks, whether it was for Paul George in 2017 or Kawhi Leonard this offseason. The Lakers aren’t the only people that are high on Ingram’s skills, as James’ camp believes he can fill the Scottie Pippen role.
Ingram may still be a few years away from fulfilling a Pippen-esque role, but there is no denying the improvements that he has made. Ingram showed that he can be a go-to scorer, and those improvements will continue this season as the second option behind James.
