Bleacher Report recently named Lonzo Ball of the Los Angeles Lakers as a player that will prove haters wrong next season.
Los Angeles Lakers point guard, Lonzo Ball, was one of the most scrutinized rookies of all-time last year. Due to a lot of the hype put on him from his father, expectations were high for Ball.
In his rookie season, Ball played quite well, but he wasn’t the best player in the league like his father hyped him up to be. However, taking away all of the expectations placed on him by his dad, Ball had a nice rookie season.
Last year, Ball averaged 10.2 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.9 rebounds per game. considering Ball is a point guard, his ability to rebound from that position was really impressive. In addition to that, Ball did a very good job setting up his teammates for success.
One of the things that don’t show up on the box score was Ball’s ability to set the pace. As a rookie, Ball had no problem controlling the tempo of the game, and that is rare for a young player.
However, it wasn’t all perfect for Ball in his rookie season. His shooting numbers left a lot to be desired. Ball shot 36 percent from the field, 30.5 percent from three-point line, and a dreadful 45.1 percent from the free throw line. Due to his struggles shooting the ball, Ball gained a lot of haters and took a lot of criticism in his rookie season.
Recently, Bleacher Report named Ball as a player that would prove the haters wrong next season.
After a strong rookie season, Ball should be able to take another step forward in his sophomore season.Improving his percentages as a shooter will be priority No.1 for him to prove haters wrong, as that is something that he might have to always deal with because of his strange shooting motion. Since Ball had good shooting percentages in college, he should be able to improve in his second season, as he did have some good stretches during the season.
As we get closer to the start of the season, all eyes will certainly be on Ball. However, he is a talented young player that will be able to prove his haters wrong next season.
