Recent Los Angeles Lakers rumors touch on the future of the team, as no immediate roster moves are expected following Luol Deng’s buyout.

Los Angeles Lakers rumors have picked up once again in recent days. With the Luol Deng situation now behind the organization, plenty of avenues have opened up.

By using the stretch provision on Deng, the Lakers now have some maneuverability. Los Angeles also opened up enough cap space for a max free agent once again next offseason. That will get fans excited, but this season there are also options that are available.

They now have an open roster spot for the upcoming season on their regular season roster. The young players in training camp now have a better chance of making the roster if they have a good showing.

With an open roster spot, the Lakers can now bolster their roster at an area of need. They could possibly use another center. You can never have enough backcourt options either, something the Lakers learned the hard way last season when injuries struck.

However, at this time, it looks as if the Lakers are going to stand pat with their roster. According to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, the Lakers have no immediate plans for the open roster spot created by Deng’s buyout.

At this point in time, it makes sense for the Lakers to hold onto the open roster spot. While unfortunate, injuries always occur. If Los Angeles suffers any during training camp, they can use the roster spot to help offset the injury.

Keeping the roster spot also offers the team flexibility. If they feel the need to make a trade during the season, the open roster spot can help them facilitate a deal.

With an open roster spot, there are a number of different things the Lakers can do. Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka have done an excellent job keeping options open for the team, and they have accomplished that once again with the recent decision to buyout Deng.

As training camp inches closer, and the regular season quickly approaching after that, the Lakers could choose to make an addition to their roster. Having that flexibility will be nice depending on the route that the organization chooses to take.
