It’s finally here! The 2018 Los Angeles Lakers Media Day! As we did last season, the Lake Show Life brings you some of the quotes from Lakers and staff.

At the Lake Show Life, we love the Los Angeles Lakers’ media day. It seems JaVale McGee and LeBron James are the easiest players to quote and they gave the most to enjoy today. Some quotes we highlighted may go down in Media Day history, so we bolded what we thought were the top ones.

LeBron James went first. Seeing LeBron in a Lakers uniform, for Lakers fans, is like they are living a dream. Hoping to get some tidbits and insights into what LeBron is thinking at this moment in time, but even more, will we get some authentic answers and not just platitudes.

This was the first time since he signed that he took on the LA Media. The theme of his answers was that he takes care of his game and everything else takes care of itself.

LeBron seems to be setting expectations low, and he did not show much emotion except for an occasional giggle. The questions started off with Jim Hill asking what it’s like to be a Laker and his talk with Magic Johnson.

LJ: No matter what uniform I’m in I’m just always humbled I play this game at this level.

On expectations

LJ: Try to get better every single day, I don’t expect nothing, you work for what you want – the unknown is what to expect at the end of the road – everything will take care of itself.

On his game, he’s looking to Luke to run the team and develop the players:

LJ: I love getting up and down and run.

What he can do with the young guys:

LJ: We’ve done this before, we mark out the pro’s and the con’s and it’s up to the family – truly excited about this opportunity [said in a monotone voice]

Someone from the Athletic asked about pressure and what brings about pressure:

LJ: Nothing.

Asked about the Golden State Warriors:

LJ: We got a long way to go to get Golden State – we’re picking up from scratch so we have a long way to go – we can’t worry about what Golden State is doing – we can only focus on what we can do – hopefully someday we can put ourselves in a position where we can earn a championship.

Asked about how he handles distractions off the court:

LJ: How long you been following me?

ESPN asked James about getting the strengths of his versatile players to show:

LJ: Exciting for sure – It’s like the first day of school for me, you know what to expect and at the same time you don’t know what to expect.

An LA Times reporter asked about Rondo as a teammate who he thinks is smart, cerebral, and competitive, he thinks that the two will not have to talk on the court, they will understand what the other is trying to do.

LJ: It’s going to be a really cool moment when I step on the floor with Rondo — It’s not many of us in this league that can actually think and prepare with our minds before we step on the floor than the two of us.

He loosened up with James Worthy, Chris McGee, and Ali Clifton. He talked about how he is going to get along with the young crew.

He dead-faced answered, “Also understand that I’m going to have to have a little more patience, you know with the young guys,” to that Ali started laughing which got LeBron laughing, “Ali knows I’m not the most patient one, she already knows, she like ‘You saying patience? Are you kidding me?”
