3. Starting point guard spot

At this time last year, Lonzo Ball was being touted as the face of the franchise. After being the No. 2 overall pick out of UCLA, the organization had high hopes for him. Fast forward to present day, and Ball isn’t even guaranteed a starting spot.

One of the veteran signings that Los Angeles made this season was bringing in Rajon Rondo. It is a signing that has been met with some skepticism, but Rondo is a good addition to the team. Rondo brings plenty of experience to help Ball with his development, and is also a capable replacement should Ball suffer from injuries again.

Last season, the Lakers struggled when Ball was off the court. With Rondo now on the roster, the drop off should not be as severe. Their relationship will be one to keep an eye on during training camp.

The two should push each other, as Ball is ready to compete for the starting spot. Rondo is an intense competitor, so they should be able to bring the best out of each other. Both are excellent playmakers and solid defenders. However, this is a camp battle Ball should ultimately win.

Ball can still develop into the face of the Lakers franchise, a title that James will hold as long as he is there. But by the time he is ready to move on, Ball should be ready to take over that title. Winning the starting job over Rondo in training camp this season would be a great step in the right direction for Ball asserting himself and succeeding when faced with adversity.
