Los Angeles Lakers: LeBron James excited to see how the team gels
By Nick Ziegler
At media day for the Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron James spoke about how excited he is to see how the team comes together.
With media day for the Los Angeles Lakers in the rearview mirror, we are getting closer to the start of the preseason and the regular season. After missing the playoffs for the past five years, the Lakers are hoping to see that drought end this season.
In the offseason, the Lakers made a lot of changes to their roster, with the most notable addition being LeBron James. For the first time in his career, James will be playing in the Western Conference, and he also for the first time in a long time will not have another All-Star on the roster.
While one of the players in the young core of the Lakers might take a big step forward, James will most likely be the only All-Star on Los Angeles next season. With a new chapter of his career starting, James is very excited to see how it all comes together. Here’s what he had to say about looking forward to the season to Matthew Moreno of LakersNation.com.
"“When you see so many ball handlers, so many guys can do multiple things: pass, shoot, rebound, get out and run. I look forward to seeing how we can all work together.”"
Even though the Lakers didn’t add another star like Paul George or Kawhi Leonard this offseason, they did add a lot of good veterans that can do multiple things. The Lakers have a very deep roster heading into the season, and that will certainly be helpful for the 82-game grind.
While James has mostly been surrounded by shooters in his career, this Lakers team has been built a bit differently. The Lakers have multiple players that can bring the ball up the court and their versatility might be one of their greatest strengths this coming season.
James is coming off an excellent year with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but with the Lakers, he might not have to work as hard as he did in Cleveland. With two very capable point guards in Lonzo Ball and Rajon Rondo, James shouldn’t be asked to be the primary ball-handler often. This might take some time to get adjusted too, but it should help James save some energy.
With a lot of new faces, there will certainly be an adjustment period for the Lakers early in the season. However, when things come together, they should be a lot of fun to watch.
