There were plenty of interesting quotes and interactions at Los Angeles Lakers media day earlier this week.
This was easily the most anticipated Los Angeles Lakers media day in almost two decades, since 1996, when Shaquille O’Neal was signed as a free agent and Kobe Bryant was drafted. There is for one reason, for it, and that was the first time LeBron James would officially be in a Lakers uniform.
The media flocked to LeBron on Monday in a crowd that seemed as big as the one that surrounded Tiger Woods at the Tour Championship the day before.
There is a different buzz around this year’s Lakers squad because they are expected to make a big comeback as a franchise as Woods has on the course. For the first time in about half a decade, they actually have legitimate expectations to be a playoff team and possibly even a title contender.
No player would commit to saying the Lakers were title contenders on media day, especially Michael Beasley, who dodged any questions about predicting the Lakers fate in a serious of hilarious responses to ESPN reporter Dave Mcmenamin.
The Lakers interesting group of players other than LeBron is also what made this media day one for the books. They have already had a ton of nicknames and they have not even played on the court together yet, and that shows just how much attention the Meme Team will receive this season.
The Lake Show will definitely be one of the most covered teams in the league next season because the cast of characters on this roster creates intrigue.
With the Lakers preseason right around the corner, let’s take a look at the most notable takeaways from a day full of interviews leading into the season.
