5. Lonzo rounding into shape
Last year Lonzo Ball was loudly and rightfully criticized for his poor outside shooting. So far this year, he has been their best 3-point shooter, converting 5-of-12 shots behind the arc, a 41.7 percent rate, and he’s also made both his free throw attempts.
Teammate Jason Hart, whose all-around performance has been quite impressive (other than his 1-for-5 free throw shooting), is 4-of-10 from deep. But, in addition to Kuzma, the other Lakers counted on for long-distance baskets are missing in action: Ingram is 0-for-5, KCP 1-for-4 and James a horrendous 1-for-11.
As a team, the Lakers are shooting an ugly 24 percent on 3- point attempts. This will certainly improve as the season moves along, but is obviously not a good way to start.
6. Mike is MIA
Michael Beasley has logged just 2 minutes total so far. There has been no indication that he’s injured, so the conclusion must be that Walton hasn’t yet figured out how to use him.
Beasley is too good an offensive force to keep buried on the bench, so look for him some playing time soon. It might begin with him filling in while Ingram serves his suspension.
