Role Player Grades

PF. Los Angeles Lakers. KYLE KUZMA. B+. Kyle Kuzma finished the night with 22 points – his second 20-point outing this season – in 34 minutes of action.
Since Brandon Ingram’s suspension, Kuz has shown his importance to this team by displaying his ability to be able to score from anywhere. On Thursday he did it again, as he knocked down a couple triples, made all of his free throws, and had a buzzer-beating three to give the Lakers a one-point lead at the half.

Kyle was also great on the defensive end as he finished the night with one steal and two blocks. It would be nice to see Kuzma more active on the boards and in the passing game, but the second year pro has definitely shown strides in his game.

A+. JAVALE MCGEE IS A BAD MAN! In a matchup against one of the best, of not the best, centers in the league – Nikola Jokic – McGee did not back down. Of course, he did not match Jokic stat-for-stat, but he was able to make his dominance felt on both ends.
JaVale finished the night with a season-high 21 points, seven rebounds, and two assists in 32 minutes. McGee also chipped in a block and a steal on defense.

JaVale gets an A+ for his performance, however, it was cemented by his impact in the fourth quarter. In that quarter alone, McGee had eight points, two rebounds, and two assists while shooting 80 percent from the floor. Keep it up big fella!
. C. Los Angeles Lakers. JAVALE MCGEE

SG. Los Angeles Lakers. LANCE STEPHENSON. A. Coming off of his best performance of the season so far, Lance Stephenson was ready to ball once again. Born Ready finished the night with 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists in 25 minutes played.
Lance has filled in the sixth man role perfectly during Rajon Rondo and Brandon Ingram’s absence. He elevated his game once again on Thursday when he scored eight points in the fourth quarter along with an outlet assist to none other than LeBron James. That might be as odd this season gets, but we like the odd as long as it results in a win. Born Ready should stay <del>hot</del> ready.
