Los Angeles Lakers: LeBron James is a fan of Lonzo Ball’s game

Although the NBA season is still rather young for the Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron James already likes what he sees from Lonzo Ball.

The amount of time Los Angeles Lakers teammates LeBron James and Lonzo Ball have shared the court in 2018-2019 is still relatively limited. It is key to remember that the latter missed part of the preseason while recovering from a knee injury.

Despite this truth, James is already on board with what Ball brings to the table. According to Christian Rivas of Lonzo Wire (originally via Brian Windhorst of ESPN), the four-time MVP evidently thinks the following about the Lakers’ second-year talent.

"“LeBron really likes (Lonzo),” Windhorst said via The Woj Pod. “He likes his mentality, his makeup.”"

Frankly, it is not too hard to understand why James likes what Ball is made of. Akin to himself, Ball has an incredibly high basketball IQ and has a good feel for the game. Moreover, the former UCLA standout is always looking to find the open man for an easy bucket.

Granted Ball is certainly known for his passing skills, his shooting percentages have improved in his second campaign. The point guard’s field goal percentage resides around 45 percent as of when this was written, while his three-point conversion rate is a little above 40 percent.

Reasons like may shed light on why Luke Walton is starting Ball over Rajon Rondo at this juncture. It is nothing against Rajon, for his mental fabric is quite similar to Lonzo’s.

However, when James and Ball are on the same page, the Lakers are a fun group to watch. The pair possess a knack for making smart decisions when the ball is in their hands, making the lives of opposing defenses a pain in the captain’s quarters.

Although the James-Ball duo looks good so far, Anthony Irwin of SB Nation raises a fair point. Indeed, the NBA season is “all about consistency,” and it is still October. Things are just getting started, folks, and there is a lot of work to do.

Nevertheless, LBJ and Zo have looked mighty sharp during certain sequences. Once the two get further acquainted with one another, thinking about the possibilities provides plenty of reason for excitement.

Assuming that the chemistry continues to grow, some of the close losses L.A. has sustained thus far may very well turn into wins later on. Of course, only time will tell what transpires.
