The Los Angeles Lakers host the Orlando Magic in a Sunday matinee at the Staples Center.
The Los Angeles Lakers will be getting after it early this Sunday! The Lakers will be hosting a Sunday matinee against the Orlando Magic, looking to exact some revenge from last week.
Last week, these two teams met in Orlando as the Lakers began their three-game road trip. It wasn’t a great start for Los Angeles, whose defense fell apart after a strong first quarter. Orlando ended up winning the game rather easily, winning 130-117.
Los Angeles will look to return the favor this afternoon. That is the only loss the Lakers have suffered in their last eight games and are winners in nine of their last 11 games.
Orlando, on the other hand, comes in sputtering a little bit. The Magic have lost two games in a row, dropping back under the .500 mark after winning seven of nine games. This will be the second game in a six-game road trip that began with a loss to the Denver Nuggets on Nov. 23.

In the first matchup, the Lakers could not slow down Nikola Vucevic. Vucevic scored 36 points with 12 rebounds. Six Magic players scored in double-figures overall, as D.J. Augustin scored 22, Evan Fournier had 15 and Aaron Gordon scored 12 in the starting lineup. Off the bench, Terrence Ross scored 13 and Johnathan Simmons scored 12.
Evident from those stats, it was the defense that was the issue for the Lakers. Los Angeles scored plenty, as they had six players of their own in double-figures, led by 22 from LeBron James.
One player who needs to step up is Lonzo Ball. He scored zero points in the first meeting but has begun finding his footing offensively in recent games as he has kicked up the aggressiveness on that side of the ball.
