Recent Lakers rumors are about LeBron James wanting to team up with Carmelo Anthony. However, does the team want him?
With the Lakers currently on a roll, recent Lakers rumors have been about LeBron James wanting the Lakers to get Carmelo Anthony.
After a tough season with the Oklahoma City Thunder last year, Anthony did not find any more success with the Houston Rockets in a short stint this season. As the No.1 seed in the Western Conference last season, the Rockets were hoping that Anthony would help push them over the top.
However, after a poor start to the season, the Rockets and Anthony agreed to part ways, yet Anthony still remains on the team. Since Anthony was signed this offseason, he can’t be traded until after December 15th.
With Anthony’s time in Houston certainly coming to an end sooner rather than later, reports are that James would like to play with Anthony.
However, the Lakers don’t appear to be interested.
Seeing that James would like to play with Anthony isn’t all that surprising. The two are very good friends, and James, of course, believes that Anthony still has something left in the tank.
While Anthony is still capable of being an NBA player, he certainly isn’t the player that he once was. In a full season with the Thunder last year, Anthony averaged just 16.2 points per game, which the lowest in his career. He shot just over 40 percent from the field, which was also a career-low.
After getting a fresh start with the Rockets, the numbers didn’t get any better for Anthony. In a small sample size, Anthony continued to shoot just over 40 percent from the field, and the match in Houston wasn’t working for either side.
While LeBron might want to play with Anthony, it was reported that he won’t be asking the team to get Anthony. As the Lakers currently stand, there is really no need for Anthony, as they are pretty deep on the wing. Barring an injury, it would be surprising to see the Lakers go after Anthony.
