Former Los Angeles Lakers forward Lamar Odom is preparing to play in the BIG3 this upcoming season.

It has been a while since the Los Angeles Lakers were true contenders in the NBA. They are hoping to change that with LeBron James in town, but the final years of Kobe Bryant‘s tenure and the subsequent seasons have been rough on fans of the purple and gold.

Los Angeles hasn’t been dominant since the late 2000s when they won back-to-back NBA Championships in 2009 and 2010. One of the key players on those teams was forward, Lamar Odom.

Odom was a versatile forward that did a lot of different things for the Lakers. He adjusted his role and agreed to come off the bench, which opened up a whole new world of opportunities for Odom and the team.

Odom took home the Sixth Man of the Year award for his performance in the 2010-11 season. After that, Odom’s world came crashing down.

He has struggled mightily with off-court issues, as his NBA career came to an end following the 2012-13 season. He struggled with substance abuse, saying he was lucky to be alive and cheated death. As a result, Odom admits that the drug use forced his NBA career to come to an end earlier than anticipated.

Following his final season in the NBA with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2013, he signed with Laboral Kutxa Baskonia of the Spanish League and Euroleague on a two-month deal. He appeared in only two games.

When Phil Jackson took over as president of basketball operations for the New York Knicks, he signed Odom. He would never appear in a game with the Knicks, lasting less than three months with the organization.

While his NBA career has come to a close, Odom will continue his basketball career. He confirmed to TMZ that he will be participating in the BIG3 this upcoming season. Odom is preparing to go through the BIG3 League combine to become eligible to play this upcoming season.

Odom seemed excited about the opportunity to play against some former NBA teammates and foes once again on the court. One person that Odom mentioned he hoped to team up with was Cuttino Mobley.
