Los Angeles Lakers: 10 greatest Christmas Day moments, performances
7. Jerry West dominates
Jerry West is one of the best guards in the history of the NBA. The silhouette used for the current NBA logo was a smooth scorer that could dominate a game. On Christmas Day in 1965, West did exactly that.
The Lakers defeated the Detroit Pistons 115-106 in that game and West was a huge reason why. Detroit had no answer for West in this matchup, as he stuffed the stat sheet. Full stat sheets aren’t available from games that long ago, but from the stats that were available, West was by far the best player on the court.
West poured in 44 points, adding eight rebounds and nine assists. West is one of five players in NBA history to average over 30 points per game on Christmas along with Kevin Durant, Wilt Chamberlain, Carmelo Anthony and Oscar Robertson.
Pistons guard Eddie Miles did what he could to keep pace with West, scoring 35 points with six rebounds and four assists.
