The Los Angeles Lakers were able to wrap up 2018 with a good win over the Sacramento Kings. In the win, Brandon Ingram shined.

Despite the Los Angeles Lakers being banged up, they are still fighting hard to keep their place in the Western Conference standings. With matchups seemingly every night against potential playoff teams, the West is proving to be very difficult.

As the Lakers continue to play without LeBron James and Rajon Rondo, it has required the young core to take on a lot more than they thought they would have had to this season. So far this season the young core has played well. However, they have been asked to carry the load the past few games.

Unfortunately, prior to the game against the Kings, the talented young core wasn’t enough for the Lakers. After holding on to beat the Warriors on Christmas, the Lakers lost two straight games to the Clippers and Kings. However, at home, the Lakers snapped their two-game skid with a win.

In the victory, the Lakers relied heavily on their young core as they have for the past two games. Arguably the top performer for the Lakers was Brandon Ingram. On Sunday, Ingram had a great overall game, as he totaled 21 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds. Ingram was very efficient from the field, as he shot 9-of-13.

Seeing Ingram step up with James out is a great sign for the Lakers, as many believe that he can be the sidekick that James needs. At just 21-years-old, Ingram still has a ton of developing to do as a player. So far, he might have had the most challenging time adjusting to playing with James. However, games like this show the potential player that he can become.

Injuries and a suspension might have caused a bit of a tough start for Ingram this season, however, he is a key piece for the Lakers moving forward. Next up for the Lakers will be a few days off to hopefully get James a bit healthier. Their next game will be Wednesday in a big matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
