– Develop the core

Over the past few seasons, the Los Angeles Lakers have done a great job of protecting their young and talented assets. Instead of trading draft picks away, the Lakers have held on to them and even acquired more in deals with other teams. By doing so, this has allowed the Lakers to establish one of the best young cores in the NBA.

The scouting department for the Lakers has done a very nice job the past few years, and that has resulted in the team drafting players like Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, and Kyle Kuzma. In a year where the Lakers had three first round picks, they really hit the nail on the head when they made their selections.

With the young core of the Lakers all past their rookie seasons, we are continuing to see them grow right before our eyes. Adding James put a lot of pressure on the young core to be ready for a huge challenge. The addition of James has put the national spotlight on the Lakers, and so far, the young core hasn’t been hiding in the shadows. As 2019 goes on, it will be great to see the young core continue to develop.
