– Get another star

Now that the Lakers have gotten their first star in LeBron James, the goal in the summer of 2019 is going to be to find a star to play alongside him. As a team that has enough cap space to sign a max free agent this summer, the Lakers are going to be a major player for all of the top free agents.

Since the Lakers have the cap space, signing a star to play next to James would be the ideal scenario, However, they do have a talented young core that can also be used as a trade chip for a player. The main rumors of late have been surrounding Anthony Davis and the Lakers. While the Lakers would surely love to get Davis, he is still under contract with the New Orleans Pelicans, and trading for him would likely deplete that talented young core they have worked on building for years.

In 2019, how the Lakers try to get their second star to play with James could be the biggest decision that the franchise makes. Preserving their young core and signing a free agent would likely be the best-case scenario, but it would be very difficult to turn away a player like Anthony Davis in a potential trade. However, in 2019, we definitely want to see another star in Los Angeles.
