Lakers Rumors: Anthony Davis has requested to be traded

Recent Lakers rumors are that New Orleans Pelicans star, Anthony Davis has informed the team that he won’t be signing an extension with them.

As we get closer to the NBA Trade Deadline, there have been plenty of Lakers rumors surrounding the team. With the return of LeBron James getting closer and closer, the Lakers still have a good chance to move back into the playoffs in the Western Conference.

Prior to the injury to James, the Lakers were one of the top teams in the Western Conference. However, without him, the Lakers have a 6-10 record. James missing time has shown that the Lakers do need another star to truly be competitive for a championship in the West. Furthermore, it appears like a star player will be becoming available in a potential trade.

With the struggles of the New Orleans Pelicans this season, Anthony Davis has let the franchise know that he doesn’t plan on signing a contract extension with the team according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

This is certainly huge news for the NBA, as Davis is one of the top players in the league. Contract-wise, the Pelicans don’t need to rush a trade of Davis, as he is under contract through this season and next. However, trading him soon with a full year left on his deal would bring them back the highest return.

For the Lakers, getting another superstar to play alongside LeBron has been a priority for them. With cap space and a lot of young assets, the Lakers will surely be one of the favorites to land Davis in a potential trade.

While the Lakers have been hesitant to trade their young assets, getting a duo of LeBron and Davis would really make them a title contender.  While there is nothing imminent, the Lakers should certainly be interested in Davis. As we get closer to the deadline, we will have to see in the Pelicans are looking to move Davis now in order to get the most for him.
