Lakers Rumors: New Orleans has no interest in trade with Los Angeles
Recent Los Angeles Lakers rumors won’t make fans happy, as the New Orleans Pelicans reportedly have no interest in trading Anthony Davis to Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Lakers rumors have dominated headlines in recent days after the Anthony Davis news broke. Once it was announced that Davis had informed the New Orleans Pelicans he would not be signing an extension with the team, Lakers rumors boomed.
Fans immediately went online to discuss potential trade packages. The ESPN Trade Machine was working overtime as numerous trade proposals were put together to see if the money worked. Lakers fans dreamed up scenarios of Davis joining LeBron James along with another superstar potentially this summer signing in free agency.
While Lakers fans are excited about the possibility of adding Davis, the Pelicans are not as eager. In fact, New Orleans looks like they will dash those hopes altogether.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Pelicans have no interest in making a trade with the Lakers that includes Davis.
While this will disappoint a lot of Lakers fans, it should not come as a surprise. The Pelicans have no real incentive to trading Davis at this moment and have let it be known they will do this on their own timeline.
While Davis has formally requested a trade, he is still under contract for next season. As a result, the Pelicans can wait until the summer to trade him. If they do that, more teams can get into the bidding, driving up the price. One of those teams New Orleans is hopeful to hear from is the Boston Celtics.

It has been a crazy week for Davis and the Pelicans. Davis was fined $50,000 because of comments made by his agent, Rich Paul, publicly commenting that Davis wanted to be traded.
This trade demand upset a lot of people. Not only would another small-market team be losing a marquee player, but Paul is also the agent for LeBron James. Naturally, tampering accusations were thrown out about James and the Lakers.
It would not be the first time that the Lakers had to deal with tampering charges. They were fined $500,000 because of Paul George. Magic Johnson then spoke about Giannis Antetokounmpo and the team was fined another $50,000.
To land Anthony prior to the trade deadline will be a tall task for the Lakers. First, they will have to get Pelicans general manager, Dell Demps, on the phone. That is something ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reports has not happened, as Demps is reportedly not picking up his phone to discuss Davis trades.
