Recent Lakers rumors are that Los Angeles is still very much a possibility to sign Carmelo Anthony.

Over the past few days there have been a ton of Lakers rumors coming out of Los Angeles. With the news that Anthony Davis wanted out of New Orleans, the Lakers were obviously one of the teams linked to him.

While we will have to wait and see what transpires between the Lakers and Pelicans over Davis, another player could be a possibility for the Lakers.  Recently, the Chicago Bulls waived Carmelo Anthony as expected, making him a free agent.

Anthony is a player that the Lakers have been keeping tabs on throughout the year. As a former All-Star, Anthony certainly still has some game, but he has failed to find a good landing spot after being traded by the New York Knicks.

While the Lakers have been pretty clear that they don’t want to cut a guaranteed contract for Anthony, a potential big trade with the Pelicans for Davis could open up a lot of roster spots.

In order to get a player like Davis, the Lakers would likely be sending at least four players to the Pelicans in exchange for Davis. While they might get one or two back for salary cap purposes, they would certainly have a spot open for Anthony.

If the Lakers did acquire Davis, they would certainly be a team that is looking to add buyout players to their roster. This season, there looks like there could be quite a few of those type players, as the New York Knicks could move on from players like Wes Matthews and DeAndre Jordan.

With the trade deadline less than a week away, the Lakers could have a much different looking roster after February 7th. Depending on what happens with Anthony Davis, the Lakers could very well add Anthony as well. As a good scorer and friend of LeBron, the Lakers and Anthony could be a match depending on what happens with Davis.
