Lakers Rumors: Updated trade offer to New Orleans Pelicans for Anthony Davis
Recent Los Angeles Lakers rumors involve a reported offer on the table for the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for Anthony Davis.
Los Angeles Lakers rumors have reached a fever pitch. The team has gone all in for Anthony Davis, as they have presented a monster offer to the New Orleans Pelicans for their superstar big man.
There have been a number of different Lakers rumors involving their pursuit of Davis since he said he would not be signing the super-max extension with the Pelicans. The Lakers moved into the spotlight as the team that wanted Davis.
New Orleans was not going to make things easy on Davis or the Lakers. They would not gift wrap their best player to Los Angeles as they felt there were some behind the scenes happenings to help facilitate this deal.
Davis’ agent happens to be Rich Paul, the agent and best friend of LeBron James. Naturally, people believed there was tampering, and Davis was fined as a result of the public trade request.
New Orleans was not happy with how things went down, as Dell Demps reportedly ignored calls from the Lakers at the beginning. However, he eventually returned calls and talks began picking up.
The most recent Lakers rumors involving trade talks has a monster trade offer on the table. According to Brad Turner, the Lakers are ready to send everything, including the kitchen sink, to New Orleans to acquire Davis.
Turner reports that the most recent offer from the Lakers is Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, Rajon Rondo, Michael Beasley, Lance Stephenson and two first round picks for Davis and Solomon Hill.
That trade offer hits on all of the boxes the Pelicans were hoping to check off in a trade for Davis. They are acquiring high-upside young players, draft compensation and salary relief.
If you are the Pelicans, that is a tough offer to turn down even if you believe none of the Lakers’ youngsters have as high of a ceiling as someone such as Jayson Tatum. As for the Lakers, it shows that they are all in on Davis.
Topping this trade offer will be tough for any team. Surrendering assets in the way of young players and draft picks is one thing. Sacrificing the chance to add a third superstar in free agency is another thing.
By taking on Hill, the Lakers will not have enough cap space for a max free agent this upcoming summer. They will still have a good amount of money available to spend, but not enough for a max salary.
Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka are being super-aggressive in their pursuit of Davis. It makes sense, as Davis is one of the best players in the NBA and only 25-years old. However, gutting virtually the whole roster is an extremely risky move.
