Recent Los Angeles Lakers rumors involve a potential deal with the Detroit Pistons, as the team will reportedly acquire Reggie Bullock for Svi Mykhailiuk.
According to recent Los Angeles Lakers rumors, a trade is close to being finalized. It is not the one many fans are hoping for, as it does not include Anthony Davis.
Instead, it looks like the Lakers are about to add some much-needed shooting to their roster. According to Frank Isola of The Athletic, the Lakers are closing in on a trade with the Detroit Pistons.
Isola reports that the Lakers will acquire Reggie Bullock in exchange for Svi Mykhailiuk. This is an odd trade when first seeing it come across your timeline on social media or across the bottom line on television, but it makes sense for the Lakers.
While Mykhailiuk has some potential as a 3-and-D player, he has not yet shown that ability consistently with the Lakers. On a team with LeBron James, there is no time to wait for that development to happen.
Right now, Bullock is an upgrade on Mykhailiuk in virtually every aspect. Bullock is shooting 38.7 percent from 3-point land this season.
He is coming to Los Angeles on a hot streak, as he has made at least three 3-pointers in three straight games, including 5-of-10 from distance in his final game with the Pistons against the New York Knicks.
For his career, Bullock is a 39.6 percent shooter from deep. That makes him an excellent fit alongside LeBron James, as the Lakers are desperate for more consistent 3-point shooting.
If Los Angeles is able to swing a deal for Anthony Davis as well, they will need bodies to help replace what is being sent out and Bullock can help accomplish that.
Defensively, Bullock leaves a lot to be desired. He has a negative defensive box plus/minus and has a defensive rating of 112. However, the only player with equal or worse numbers in both categories on the Lakers this season is Mykhailiuk.
This is an upgrade for the Lakers, but there is still some work to be done before they can truly become playoff contenders again. Expect some more moves prior to Thursday as the Lakers look to climb back up the Western Conference standings.
