Lakers Rumors: Carmelo Anthony to be considered in buyout market
By Nick Ziegler
Recent Lakers rumors are that Los Angeles plans to be very active in the buyout market after recently freeing up a roster spot.
With the NBA Trade Deadline passing, Lakers rumors will now be focused on who they will be going after in the buyout market.
After missing out on Anthony Davis before the deadline, the Lakers did make two moves. The first trade they completed brought Reggie Bullock to Los Angeles in exchange for Svi Mykhailiuk and a second-round pick.
In addition to that trade from Tuesday, the Lakers then completed with the Los Angeles Clippers just prior to the trade deadline. That deal sent Michael Beasley and Ivica Zubac to the Clippers in exchange for Mike Muscala.
With the Lakers freeing up a roster spot in the Muscala deal, they will now be positioned to sign buyout candidates. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers will evaluate the buyout market, and consider bringing in Carmelo Anthony.
Anthony has certainly been a name that has been linked to the Lakers already this season. As a former All-Star, Anthony will still garner a lot of attention wherever he goes, but he certainly isn’t the same impact player he once was. Anthony has barely played this season, as his time with Houston ended rather quickly.
While the Lakers will now consider Anthony, there are going to be other options available to them. With Zubac gone, the Lakers could look to add another center, or possibly a point guard with Lonzo Ball out.
As the buyout market takes shape, the Lakers will certainly be an appealing destination for free agents. With LeBron James now back, the Lakers are going to be trying to make a push toward the playoffs. Since there are some talented players that are expected to be bought out, freeing up the roster spot could pay off for the Lakers.
