Los Angeles Lakers: Win over Boston Celtics could provide a spark

The Los Angeles Lakers were able to get a big win against the Boston Celtics. This win could be what turns their season around.

Prior to the injury to LeBron James on Christmas, it was pretty smooth sailing for the Los Angeles Lakers. They were sitting fourth in the Western Conference, and they even beat the Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day after James left early.

However, the injuries to LeBron and Rajon Rondo on Christmas was far too much to overcome for the Lakers. After the injuries, the Lakers slowly saw themselves fall in the standings, and eventually they fell out of the playoff picture.

With James back, the Lakers should be able to make a run at the playoffs, but things have been shaky of late. Likely due to all of the trade rumors, the Lakers have not been playing great of late.

Against the Indiana Pacers, the Lakers suffered their worst loss of the season, and things were not looking good. With the trade deadline passing, there was no major deal for Anthony Davis. While the Lakers did make some minor moves to improve their three-point shooting, there wasn’t a major roster shakeup.

On Thursday night, the Lakers knew they would have a tough game against Kyrie Irving and the Boston Celtics. In a game that went down to the wire, the Lakers were able to pick up a huge win thanks to a game-winner from Rondo.

Pulling off the big upset on the road after the embarrassment in Indiana is huge for the Lakers on this road trip. Now that the young core doesn’t have to worry about possibly being traded this season, they should be able to relax.

While Lonzo Ball is still out, the Lakers do have a lot of talent on this team still. A win like the one against the Celtics could be exactly what the team needed. A buzzer beater against a rival on the road is certainly good for Lakers and could be a spark for the team heading toward the All-Star break.

If the Lakers are able to go on a run, we can certainly look back at Rondo’s game-winner being what sparked the team.
