The Los Angeles Lakers suffered a very disappointing loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday night.
Coming into New Orleans, the Los Angeles Lakers were coming off a great win over the Houston Rockets. After a tough end to the first half of the season, the Lakers were able to get a much-needed win against a talented team in the West.
With Anthony Davis sitting out, Saturday looked like it could be the beginning of a nice winning streak for the Lakers. However, they simply did not get the job done on the road, and this will go down as one of their worst losses of the season.
Right from the start, the Pelicans came out hungry. They were able to score 42 points in the first quarter, as the defense was an issue for the Lakers early on. I also carried throughout the night. The Pelicans finished with 128 points in this game, as Jrue Holiday led the team with 27 points and Julius Randle has a strong showing with 24 in a revenge game.
In addition to the Lakers’ struggles on defense, they also turned the ball over a ton against the Pelicans. The 23 turnovers for the Lakers was one of their worst outputs of the season, and it gave a team that they are better than extra chances. While the front office of the Pelicans might not be trying to win games by sitting out Davis, the players on the court on looking to make names for themselves.
This is yet again another bad loss for the Lakers. As they look to gain ground in the Western Conference, beating bad teams like the Pelicans is a must. This could have been the start of a nice winning streak for the Lakers, but instead it is another disappointing loss, and another game that could cost them a spot in the playoffs.
The Lakers have lost far too many of these games this season, and they have to be held accountable for that. Next up for the Lakers will be a matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies. Hopefully, they don’t disappoint like they did against the Pelicans.
