Los Angeles Lakers: 3 reasons Brandon Ingram should be considered ‘untouchable’
By Ethan Temkin
As the Los Angeles Lakers look to upgrade their roster in the 2019 offseason, the team needs to view Brandon Ingram as a franchise cornerstone.
Ever since he was drafted No. 2 overall in the 2016 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Lakers, Brandon Ingram has been a polarizing player in the league. About half of NBA fans think he’s too skinny, can’t shoot, and lacks a consistent outside shot. The other half, on the other hand, has touted his defensive versatility, playmaking, and ability to get to the basket.
After being given the “untouchable” tag by Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka at the beginning of the season, the pair walked that back when they offered Ingram as part of their ‘godfather offer’ for Pelican’s big man Anthony Davis.
Once again, the NBA world was divided when it came to the value of Brandon Ingram, with one side saying the Pelicans were foolish to not take the massive offer, while the other applauded the Pelicans for not biting on an offer that had no ‘potential’ All-Stars in the deal.
With the 2018-2019 NBA season winding down, and the Lakers desperate to make a playoff push, the future of Brandon Ingram and the rest of the Lakers’ young core could very well hang in the balance depending on how this season shakes out.
Here are three reasons why the Lakers should still consider Brandon Ingram to be an ‘untouchable’ asset.
