Los Angeles Lakers lose a heartbreaker to Milwaukee
By Ronald Agers
The Lakers have to find a balance with Rajon Rondo if they want to make the playoffs!
The Los Angeles Lakers have a lot of work to do when it comes to dealing with Rajon Rondo’s minutes going forward for this playoff push.
They have a major problem with Rondo in the lineup. Rondo’s play has been off for weeks. So bad that James Worthy called him out after the Memphis game.
When the Lakers icon has something to say about a specific player being a problem. That is saying a lot. You see, these people from Spectrum SportsNet are paid to say positive things about the Lakers. This statement sent shock waves through Lakers Nation.
It’s easy to see what put Rajon Rondo in a funk, after hitting a game winning shot, that at the time, saved the Lakers season, he was benched after the Lakers acquired Reggie Bullock.
You have to relate to Rajon Rondo, just think about it.
Rajon Rondo basically plays the best game of the season and bails the Lakers out on the road and gets demoted for a reward. Doesn’t set right with you does it?
Obviously, it didn’t with Rondo.
Now that he’s back, the reason that Walton replaced Rondo with Bullock was on full display.
In the first quarter, the Milwaukee Bucks sat back almost daring Rondo to shoot. It was ugly at the beginning as Rondo missed his first four 3-pointers and missed six of seven overall. At times he looked like he didn’t want to shoot the ball and it showed.
Rondo scored 20 points, but he shot only 7-of-19 from the field and 4-of-12 from distance. Teams are going to replicate this strategy for the next 20 games. Book it. But that’s not the main issue.
The problem is Rajon Rondo cannot stop anybody on defense. He got torched by guards, Eric Bledsoe and Malcolm Brogdon.
His halfcourt defense was bad.
His transition defense was bad.
Sometimes he just refused to play defense and let players by to score just to wait for the ball to be inbounded.
Mike Muscala got dunked on his head but even Rondo was an issue.
A player like the Greek Freak needs defense as a team. Rondo just waved his hand trying to reach in and as you see, it didn’t work out.
If LeBron James gets skewered for his defense, it’s time to look at why. LeBron James is now in the spotlight for porous defense, Rajon Rondo needs it too.
In closing, let’s all keep Michael Beasley in our prayers and encouragement. There was a cryptic tweet concerning him missing his mother. It seems that he is struggling.
He is in China right now, but he is going through a rough time. It’s not easy losing your mother under any circumstances but being cut soon after doesn’t make things any easier. If you are reading this, send a prayer of encouragement for my man Beas.
Believe it or not, he did contribute to the success of the Lakers at times during the season.
