With some extra opportunities, Alex Caruso is making the most of his minutes with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Since the Los Angeles Lakers will not be making the playoffs this season, we have recently seen some of the younger players get more opportunities. One of the players that has been seeing more time on the court is Alex Caruso.

Caruso is on a two-way deal with the Lakers this season, and a familiar face. Last season, Caruso played a good amount with the Lakers, as injuries to Lonzo Ball and a lack of depth at the point guard position resulted in him playing quite a bit.

With Ball recently being announced out for the season, Caruso is once again playing a good amount for the Lakers. In the last five games, Caruso is averaging 20.4 minutes, 8.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game.

Considering the current state of the Lakers, giving minutes to a guy like Caruso make sense. Finding out what type of player Caruso is or could be is important when looking ahead toward next season.

Having quality depth at the point guard position is very important in the NBA, as we have seen the impact on the team when Lonzo Ball is out. While Caruso is not a starting caliber point guard in the NBA, he might be able to be a backup and certainly as a third option.

In the most recent loss to Toronto Raptors, Caruso played very well in 27 minutes of action. Caruso totaled 16 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the field to go along with five rebounds and five assists. Caruso’s ability to fill up the box score has certainly been something he is capable of when he gets the minutes.

As the season wraps up, Caruso should continue to be a player that gets minutes for the Lakers. The front office and coaching staff will be using the last few weeks of the season to judge who should be back for next season. With a strong end to the season, Caruso can leave a lasting impression on the front office.
