The Los Angeles Lakers look like they will miss the playoffs for the sixth consecutive year. Despite the playoffs being unlikely, the team should still look to accomplish these five goals.

With the playoffs at this point only a mathematical possibility, it is now time for the Los Angeles Lakers to focus on different areas rather than chasing the 8th Seed. Here are 5 goals the Lakers should set themselves for the rest of the 2018-19  NBA season

1. Tank and lose as many games as possible

It physically hurts me to write that I, like many Laker fans, thought that tanking was behind us after the Summer of LeBron. Surely adding the best player in the league and one of the GOAT’s would lead to the Lakers making a championship run.

Turns out numerous injuries, poor roster construction and trying to trade everyone not named LeBron James for Anthony Davis really does the trick when it comes to losing a lot of games and relegating the Lakers to the lottery.

With the playoffs out of sight at this stage, it is time for the Lakers to bite the bullet and just bottom out.

There is no reward for mediocrity. The Lakers tanking the rest of the season could be the difference between Anthony Davis and DeAndre Jordan. The higher the pick, the higher the likelihood the New Orleans Pelicans accept the Lakers offering and all of Laker nation can breathe a giant sigh of relief.

It does hurt to lose games, especially this season, but to win games for no reason and potentially miss out on a franchise-altering talent that could carry the Lakers long after Lebron James is gone would hurt even more.
