Here are three reasons why the Los Angeles Lakers are a better free agent destination than the Los Angeles Clippers.

We all know that for the Los Angeles Lakers to have a real shot at winning a world championship any time soon, they’ll have to make a big splash this summer by acquiring a bonafide star. Since it seems unlikely that the New Orleans Pelicans would be willing to trade Anthony Davis here, even if the Lakers make a better offer than any other team, they’ll have to get it done via free agency.

Even though the Clippers, at least on paper, have much less talent than the Lakers, they are having a much better season and are on their way to making the playoffs for the seventh time in eight seasons. It wasn’t too long ago that the Lakers were the gold standard of pro basketball, while the Clippers were a perennial SNL skit masquerading as an NBA team.

How times have changed in much less than a decade.

Now the Clippers could have enough cap space to sign two max free agents this summer, and we’re talking about guys like Kawhi Leonard, who’s been rumored to be seriously interested in the Clippers, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Also, they don’t have all the silly pre-pubescent drama that always seems to happen on a LeBron James-led team, and that alone makes them look much more attractive.

Sometimes, maybe often times however, when a team falls way short of expectations, someone has to get lots of blame, and therefore things seem worse than they really are. Are Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka as bad at running this team as people are saying, or are they simply victims of all the injuries and LeBron James-generated drama that has happened in just the last three months?

If one takes a closer look, they’ll realize that the Lakers give these big time free agents a better chance at the Larry O’Brien trophy than that other team that they share Staples Center with.
